On the Road Again....: THAT was fun!!

THAT was fun!!

NOT!!!
Whew! Just arrived at our campground in San Antonio, and relieved to be stopped! It was threatening to rain both in Junction where we spent the night, and here, so we decided what the heck.....we will travel in the iffy weather and go on, and have a good day to explore tomorrow! Drove through the beautiful Hill Country, admiring the scenery, and a few drops and wipe of the blades cleaned my windshield nicely. Then it got more serious. Turn the blades up. Then it starts getting heavier, and visibility is pretty limited, and we hit the city limits, with 6 lanes of traffic, trucks throwing even more water, entrance ramps feeding in, and me leaning forward to see better and holding tight to the wheel. Then a beeping we had never heard. All gauges ok, I start to realize it may be coming from the phone. Sure enough.......flash flood warning. No surprise, really! We finally get to the campground , and as Clem is inside registering , it lets up! Good timing!! Oh well....at least it is now rain free to hook up, we made it ok, and have a good story to tell!! Oh......AC off, heat on!! Brrrr!!!

Summer outings from Portland

We attended three outings with the RV club, and enjoyed their company and the sights! We enjoyed cocktail hours, potluck breakfasts and BBQ dinners, as well as a little evening poker. Very fun!

First stop was Salem, OR, , home to a unique art deco style state capital building and a carousel. We visited Mission Mill, an historic woolen mill, where we toured, and were treated to the experience of seeing the old machines in operation. Young gals in period costume described , in character, what their life was like. A weaving club located on the upper floor demonstrated their looms, and even allowed us to try our hand at weaving while admiring their beautiful work. We all stopped for a burger and pineapple milkshake at the local diner before heading back to camp! We also attended the huge farmers market and enjoyed lunch and then shopping for produce and crafts.

Our second trip took us to Long Beach Washington, and the International Kite Festival that is held annually on the beach. The kites were amazing! We also visited the Kite Museum, and enjoyed strolling the town with unique shops, taking a trolley tour, and having a yummy ice cream treat at Scoopers! We spent another day exploring Cape Disappointment, hiking to its old lighthouses, and enjoying the magnificent views.

And finally, we joined the group in Port Angeles, Washington, where we camped in the town of Sequim, pronounced "squim." Our campsite was across from the bay and marina, and we enjoyed fantastic weather and relaxing on the banks when we were not exploring. We visited The Olympic National Forest, and one of the most amazing sights we have seen at Hurricane Ridge, a part of the Olympic mountains. Absolutely stunning!

All three places are on the Olympic Peninsula, and from the last stop, Victoria, BC can be seen, and reached by a 90 minute ferry ride. Our summer was busy with moving, but we were so glad we managed to attend these outings.
